art visit number 2!!!

VISTING BURCHFIELD PENNY ART CENTER!!! EXHIBIT: R. WILLIAM DOOLITTLE GALLERY THE THEME OF THE EXHIBIT: water/ rivers/ islands and the beauty of them. THE PHYSICAL SPACE: 1. The lighting in the exhibit is dark, with lights shining only of the pictures. The tone was very calm. 2. The walls were gray. I loved this. It added to the mood or tone of the exhibit and also it enhanced the bright colors that were in the framed works. 3. The materials used in the interior architecture of the space are just walls surrounding the pieces. The walls seemed layered. 4. The movement of the viewer in the gallery space is very easy. The flow of the walk seemed to be at ease, leaving viewers multiple walls to look at. THE ARTWORK: 1. The artworks didn’t seem to be organized in any particular way. They were evenly spaced on separate walls. 2. All of these artworks used vibrant, bright colors. 3. They were different in that the artists used didn’t elements, to portray water, an island, or a river. 4. They all had different frames. The frames tended to be thin, and were not overpowering to the original piece. 5. The artwork is labeled by artist, title, medium, and paint used. 6. The proximity of the artwork to each other is that they all show and embrace the beauty of water in an elegant way. The first artwork is John Pfahl's digital print. It is called vaporous sunshine. This picture is truly breathtaking. This artwork did not have a lot of colors, but it was calm and collective and that is what I liked about it. Looking into the artwork was peaceful. This is a picture of a lake, and the trees in the background and the sun is either just rising. It is beautiful. The next artist is Morton Grossman. This is watercolor on paper and the title is "River Sequence." This was by far my favorite. The colors are vibrant and eye capturing. I loved how it wasn't just one picture, it was multiple. It was also placed on a wall by itself in the exhibit. This added a "wow" factor to the watercolor. This was actually made for her husband. It was truly heart-warming. The third artist is Will Harris .This is another watercolor piece. I love watercolor! It has always been so elegant. This picture is from a lake. This is the most texture I have ever seen in a water color before and I am impressed. It is very difficult to create texture in a watercolor painting. But this artist did a remarkable job.
