module 8
Module 8: video reviews
1. The video I selected was “The Measure of All Things…” because the title seemed intriguing to me. I figured it would be historical, and give me background information on the human figure.
2. The video “More Human than Human” spoke about how we create images that are unrealistic to the human body. We emphasize certain assets such as breasts and butt and shy away from other features that make us human such as the face.
The video “The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure” spoke about how since 3000 BC the Greeks were always intrigued by the human body. To sculpt their images they used mostly materials such as copper and even bone to make the figure.
3. Both of the videos relate to the text in that they both address the creation of female images or figures and describe in depth their meaning or how they can be interpreted and how they are mostly drawn in a stereotypical way.
4. These videos were very interesting for me. Now it all makes sense why the media always exaggerates or emphasizes certain features on a female body that makes them appear unrealistic or plastic. This has been going on in even 3000 BC. That is just crazy! I feel as though women and especially young teens are so pressured to be perfect based on these images of “the perfect girl” with the starving waste line, the huge breasts and butt that do not fit in proportion for the rest of her body.
