module 8

Module 8: video reviews 1. The video I selected was “The Measure of All Things…” because the title seemed intriguing to me. I figured it would be historical, and give me background information on the human figure. 2. The video “More Human than Human” spoke about how we create images that are unrealistic to the human body. We emphasize certain assets such as breasts and butt and shy away from other features that make us human such as the face. The video “The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure” spoke about how since 3000 BC the Greeks were always intrigued by the human body. To sculpt their images they used mostly materials such as copper and even bone to make the figure. 3. Both of the videos relate to the text in that they both address the creation of female images or figures and describe in depth their meaning or how they can be interpreted and how they are mostly drawn in a stereotypical way. 4. These videos were very interesting for me. Now it all makes sense why the media always exaggerates or emphasizes certain features on a female body that makes them appear unrealistic or plastic. This has been going on in even 3000 BC. That is just crazy! I feel as though women and especially young teens are so pressured to be perfect based on these images of “the perfect girl” with the starving waste line, the huge breasts and butt that do not fit in proportion for the rest of her body.

MODULE SEVEN VIDEO POSTINGS!

1. In “Architecture: The Science of Design” I learned that an architects design is actually more strategic. They have to take in count the climate and environment of where they will be building. “High rises” must sustain height and wind. The higher the building, the higher the wind gusts, therefore there is an increased risk of building taller buildings and their designs are key to sustaining this. In “Last Call for Planet Earth: Sustainable Development and Architecture” talked about the concept of “green architecture.” This is using recyclables and renewables resources to create a new product. 2. Both of the videos relate to the text in that they discuss the different materials needed for different structures and the circumstances in which they are built in. the readings in the text were about the concepts of architecture and design. 3. These videos helped with my understanding of architecture. Personally, I am all for saving the environment so the whole “green architecture” idea was very appealing to me. 4. I chose these two videos because they both contained the science of architecture. I like to explore the science of things and how it effects the environment. I think it is really good that architects are looking at renewable resources to making their designs.

Blog Postings Peer Review

The blogs I reviewed: I had to view the blogs further above mine rather than directly above on the shared document because the link for the girls blog was never posted in the shared document. http://exploringartgettinginspiredsmdk.blogspot.com http://cofagrigus.blogspot.com When looking at Project #1, the elements and principles of art matched up perfectly with her pictures. In Stephanie's blog, my favorite of the pictures was the porcupine which represented texture. You can really visualize the texture and it is the main focus of the picture. Both blogs display the correct images with the relating elements. When looking at Project #2, Stephanie had different photos as me, but she posted the ones that had an impact on her. Latifah actually had two of the same pictures as I did. The same pictures that were used were Edgar Degas and Anselm Kiefer. She chose them for different reasons as I did. But we both chose them for reasons that they impacted us in some way or that they simply "caught our eye." The artwork on Stephanie's blog was interesting to me. She used a lot of artwork from Charles Burchfield who I love. The image that I want to know more about is Ling Xia Jiang, Wrapped House, 1991, Oil on Canvas. I want to know more about the artist, or explore more pieces of their artwork. This image is very capturing. It displays a girl in a large field. It impacts me in that there is a house in the distance, which is probably hers, and she is placed in a way that she looks comfortable laying in the field. I think this artwork represents a women leaving the house to pursue her dreams. There is an endless field of possibilities in the world. Personally, I love peer reviewing. It is always good to be given feedback from someone who did the same project as you and seeing how they approached it and compare it with yours. The comments from my peers towards my blog were helpful, it was positive feedback!
